04 December 2022 - 08 December 2022

Cairo, Egypt - CCCPA--in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Defense--organized the second pre-deployment training for Egyptian female military contingents to be deployed to UN peacekeeping operations. The training course comes as part of Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the participation of women in peace operations within the overall context of advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

The training, held from 4 to 8 December 2022, aimed to build the capacities of 24 Egyptian female military contingents to be deployed in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and Mali (MINUSMA).

Addressing the closing ceremony, Ambassador Ahmed Abdel-Latif, Director General of CCCPA, highlighted that this training--a testament of Egypt’s significant contributions to UN Peacekeeping--builds on the success of the first training course held for female peacekeepers in September 2022. He underlined the pivotal role of women peacekeepers in building trust with local communities, particularly with women and children, and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse, highlighting their role as “a key aspect of enhancing the overall performance and effectiveness of UN Peacekeeping missions.” Ambassador Abdel-Latif praised the ongoing collaboration with the Liaison Agency with International Organizations (LAWIO) and the Ministry of Defense, in the context of holding pre-deployment trainings, as well as the Government of Japan for its longstanding partnership with the Center, particularly in relation to peacekeeping training.

On his part, H.E. Ambassador Oka Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, underscored the key role of women in implementing peace processes, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1325. He commended the training as “a further step towards advancing the meaningful participation of Egyptian female contingents in UN peacekeeping operations.”He also pointed out Japan's long-standing partnership with CCCPA, noting its significant contributions to the African peace and security landscape through training and capacity building activities.

Based on the UN’s Core Pre-Deployment Training Material (CPTM), the training combines informative and analytical sessions about the situation in the Central African Republic and Mali, including the respective mission’s mandate, UN peacekeeping principles, international humanitarian law and human rights law, the rules of engagement, protection of civilians, the role of women in peacekeeping, and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse.

Pre-deployment trainings are held under CCCPA’s current project “Enhancing Peace, Security and Stability in Africa-VII (2021-2022)”, funded by the Government of Japan through UNDP.
