The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), represented by its DDR team, has recently taken part in the 19th Annual Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Training Group (IDDRTG) Meeting held between 3 to 7 July, 2023 in Kenya, Nairobi.
Hosted by the International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC), this year's meeting focused on the importance of research integration in DDR work, as well as the importance of linking DDR policy, research and practice.
On the sidelines of the meeting, members of the IDDRTG Research Working Group in collaboration with IPSTC organized an Extraordinary Meeting titled: “Addressing Regional Dynamics of Armed Conflict - Connecting DDR Policy, Research & Practice”, where CCCPA led the working group on Armed Groups Designated as Terrorist Organizations, discussing regional implications & how operational responses could be further strengthened in Africa.
The meetings witnessed the participation of members of the IDDRTG, strategic partners (UN, EU, AU), researchers as well as representatives of various African governments & National DDR commissions & institutions.
During the meeting, members of the IDDRTG elected CCCPA as the new co-chair of the IDDRTG for a two-year term, from 2023-2025. CCCPA takes on this role alongside the Kenyan-based International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC), marking the first time in years where the IDDRTG has been led by two African co-chairs and presenting a timely opportunity to advance African priorities on DDR.
CCCPA looks forward to further concerted engagements with IDDRTG members and to hosting the 20th Annual IDDRTG meeting in Cairo next year.
