A team from CCCPA conducted a field visit to Mozambique from 4 to 9 December 2023, to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing the country in relation to preventing and countering violent extremism, with the aim to better inform the design of tailored capacity building programs that meet the needs and gaps identified by the national stakeholders in this area.
The program included meetings in Maputo and Pemba, the capital of Cabo Delgado – with Government representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, the Office of the General Prosecutor, the National Penitentiary Service of Mozambique (SERNAP), and the Mozambican Central Office for Combating Organized and Transnational Crime. Meetings were also held with representatives of international organizations and other stakeholders, including the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
