Stadtschlaining, Austria - CCCPA participated in the inaugural edition of the Austrian Forum for Peace from 3-6 July 2023, organized by the Austrian Centre for Peace, under the theme “A Future for Peace: Rethinking our Answers in an Unpredictable Global Landscape.” The Forum provided an opportunity to discuss innovative approaches and partnerships, as well European-African cooperation on peace, security, and climate, also the program included sessions on environmental peacebuilding.
The conference days were composed of dedicated plenary sessions on issues relating to the challenges to peaceful coexistence in a fragmented world, peace operations, innovation and technology for peace, as well as the interlinkages between conflict and climate change. The program also consisted of several closed sessions and expert workshops on environmental peacebuilding, conflict resolution in an unpredictable geopolitical landscape and the shrinking space for mediation, peace education and peace research, as well as promoting a culture of peace.
Within this context, CCCPA’s peacebuilding associate took part in the expert workshop on experience sharing for environmental peacebuilding at the intersection of policy, practice, and capacity development, which involved a wide range of practitioners, researchers, and national officials. CCCPA presented the experience of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development over its past three editions, as well as the development and operationalization of the COP27 Presidency Initiative Climate Responses for Sustaining Peace (CRSP) as part of the Aswan Cycle, building on the conclusions of the third edition.
