05 November 2024 - 05 November 2024

H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), and H.E. Mbella Mbella, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cameroon signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CCCPA and the Cameroonian National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC). The signing ceremony took place during the Egyptian-Cameroonian Joint Committee meeting at the historic Tahrir Palace in Cairo. The agreement highlights the commitment of both nations to strengthening cooperation in the field Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR). In particular, this partnership seeks to leverage CCCPA’s expertise in this field in support of Cameroon's ongoing efforts to promote peace and security through effective DDR processes. The MoU aims to enhance the pivotal contribution of DDR processes in creating conditions conducive to peace, political and social reconciliation, and sustainable development. It provides a framework for collaboration on joint projects in key DDR areas; preventing radicalization and extremism leading to terrorism (PRELT); and other areas including Screening, Prosecution, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (SPRR); and Women, Peace, and Security (WPS). CCCPA stands at the forefront of international and regional efforts to build the capacities of African nations in the field of DDR, especially where these efforts overlap with preventing and countering extremism leading to terrorism in complex and asymmetrical environments. On its part, CCCPA played a key role in supporting the African Union (AU) to develop the first-of-its-kind Operational Guidance Note (OGNs) on DDR and-Preventing/Countering Violence Extremism (P/CVE). In addition, CCCPA is currently Co-Chairing the Integration Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Training Group (IDDRTG). Over the years, CCCPA has adapted its DDR activities to address the evolving dynamics of conflict. In this regard, the Center has strengthened its engagements and collaborations with national and local authorities by building capacities in DDR programming and DDR-related tools, including community violence reduction, AU OGNs on DDR with a focus on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), and DDR and Youth. CCCPA has also expanded its work on the ground across African countries, through conducting assessment missions and delivering trainings in conflict-affected settings to better inform the design and implementation of its activities, and increase their impact.
