CCCPA Hosts Roundtable Discussion Featuring the President of the UN General Assembly

Cairo, Egypt - On the occasion of the visit of the President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mogens Lyketofft, CCCPA organized a roundtable discussion entitled “The UN at Crossroads”, on 28 May 2016.
The roundtable saw the participation of a group of politicians, diplomats, prominent intellectuals and opinion leaders. Issues addressed included the reform of the UN Security Council, the revitalization of the UNGA, multi-polarity vs. multilateralism, the Middle East Peace Process and the current humanitarian crises. The discussion also touched upon the selection process of the new UN Secretary General.
The roundtable discussion is the latest event in the partnership between CCCPA and the Office of UN General Assembly. On 1-2 March 2016, the Cairo Center organized a High Level workshop on “Arab Perspectives on the Future of the UN Peace and Security Architecture” in preparation for the UNGA High Level Thematic Debate on UN, Peace and Security, which took place on 10-11 May 2016 in New York. It also partnered with the African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) and the Norwegian Institute for International Studies (NUPI) to organize the African Consultation in Addis Ababa held on 4 March 2016.While in Cairo, Lyketofft met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the current Secretary General of the League of Arab States H.E. Nabil El-Araby and the upcoming Secretary General H.E. Ahmed Aboul-Gheit.
