CCCPA Hosts Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Commission of Japan's House of Councilors
21 July 2016
Cairo, Egypt - CCCPA hosted Masahisa Sato, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Commission of Japan's House of Councilors on 21 July 2016, during his official visit to Cairo.
Sato, also one of the leaders of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in Japan, was provided with an overview of the Center’s various activities. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the current Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in addressing the pressing challenges of peace and security in Africa – given that both countries are currently non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2016-2017 term.
CCCPA has been the recipient of Japanese support since 2008 through a solid framework of cooperation with the UNDP. This support has been instrumental in strengthening the Center’s institutional capacity and enhancing its ability to build capacities for peace and security in Africa, namely in the fields of conflict prevention, peacemaking, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and countering transnational threats, including terrorism and extremist ideologies leading to it.
