Cairo, Egypt - Within the framework of the tripartite cooperation between the Egyptian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Interior, CCCPA held a four-day training course titled “Gender in Peacekeeping” from 22-25 November 2021.
Twenty-seven participants, representing the Egyptian military, police and civilian components in peacekeeping operations, attended the multidimensional training. The training also brought together distinguished experts, guest speakers and trainers.
The training aimed to equip participants with the technical skills and knowledge to enhance gender-responsive peacekeeping efforts. The training covers topics such as the premise of peacekeeping; the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda; the differential needs of women and men in armed conflict situations; as well as the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) in the context of peace operations.
Participants engaged in a situational analysis to equip them with the needed analytical skills for integrating gender in peace operations. The situational analysis tackles issues related to conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and SEA, and includes a simulation activity to ensure practical application of the acquired knowledge and skills.
The training falls within the activities of CCCPA which aim to advance the comprehensive and meaningful implementation of the WPS agenda in its areas of operation and contributes to the Center’s strong commitment to building the capacities of Egyptian peacekeepers--an endeavor undertaken by CCCPA since its inception in 1994. The training comes as part of the project on “Enhancing Peace, Security, and Stability in Africa VII”, funded by the Government of Japan through the UNDP.
